McCormack Staying Put in Galway West

Read more about: Fine Gael, Galway West

From Breaking News: Fine Gael’s Padraig McCormack has decided to defend his Galway West seat next year (someone might correct me, but is that now four Fine Gael candidates? Surely one will have to drop out). No doubt good news for Fine Gael with McCormack having a good record of vote getting. It’s still a major dogfight with the Greens and PDs scrapping for a seat and polling suggesting it’s all up for grabs.

I think it’s only 3 candidates because he’s replacing Brian Walsh who withdrew.

Makes you almost wonder if there’s something contrived on FG’s part….sitting TD announces retirement…speculation as to whether the party can hold on without them….before they announce their staying. Maybe attempting to convey a “all is not lost” boost to morale a la Breeda Moynihan-Cronina (Lab) in Kerry-South? I dunno. I think the Greens will take the FG seat anyway and Grealish will hold on especially with the very strong PD base in Galway city.

Thanks P i was too lazy to look.

Brian, I reckon your right about FG (on both counts) stunts like this help focus the local forces. However Grealish is subject to the transfers coming in and it really does depend on who transfers first whether the PD or Greens get that seat.
