Irish Think Corruption will decrease

Read more about: Corruption

The recent Transparency International report gave some interesting data on corruption in Ireland. They asked Percentage of respondents who think that in the next three years corruption will Increase, Decrease or stay the same. 44% of Irish people said that they thought corruption would decrease this compares to the EU as a whole of 18% and is the highest. Where  58% of  Europeans thought that corruption would Increase 47% of Irish people thought it would increase. So certainly there is a sense in Ireland more so then in the rest of Europe that corruption is dropping. Indeed in response to the question is the government effective in fighting corruption again Ireland was the highest in Europe with 46% agreeing. Another interesting statistic was the answer to “The number of respondents who paid a bribe. This was at 2% below the 5% EU total. To the question what was the most corrupt institution Political parties won with 3.4 out of 5 placing us 7th out of 16 (EU +Norway) for corrupt political parties. Again below the EU average of 3.7 for Political Party corruption perception. Which after all the tribunals is pretty staggering. Only the judicial system had a perceived corruption index at the EU average.

If corruption in politics did manage to decrease in Ireland we would still be too high on the list of corrupt government officials. There is no transparency here despite the rhetoric, the damage has been done.

Also as nightclubs are private venues the Gardai would need search warents to search them. And possible search warrents to search everyone, thus have to prove that their is cause for the search. I sincerely doubt it would be legal.
