Christmas Card from TD in November

I got our first Xmas card today. It’s from a Dublin North East TD. The self confessed third socialist in the Dail himself, Martin Brady, sent in the earliest Xmas card. Martin is not used to been early; he turned up ten minutes late on the radio, ten minutes into a panel debate he was supposed to be in, and then tried to leave very early. The account was blogged here on June 1st, 2006.

Martin Brady TD was also on the show. At one stage he tried to escape the studio [18:40sec] as the debate got too heated (not with me I might add). Hear the shows presenter plead with Martin to stay, here.

Here in DNE, one of Dublin’s more polarised constituencies (have I said I’m not standing this time, oops), FF wait to hear if Dr. Michael Woods will retire. Woods, born December 8, 1935, turns 71 on Friday next. If he stands, he will be 76 at the next election. Will he, won’t he? Will FF hold two out of three in DNE without him? When DNE was four-seater, it once had Labour, WP, and FF. Will SF capitalise on a Woods’ retirement? Only Woods knows. Happy Birthday Michael.

If Martin was a bit more like his colleague in DNC, Ivor Callely, he’d send you a card for Christmas this week and then the following week, send you one condemning Christmas. He was on the radio last week getting tetchy with Brody Sweeney, looks to me like he is feeling the pressure and this means Woods will run and that leaves Brady as the vulnerable one. Of course, Tom Brennan will probably run as an independent too and that hurts Brady too.
