From the Donegal Democrat. Labour’s spokeswoman on education, Jan O’Sullivan, angered educators in Donegal when, speaking on Newstalk, she said:
Donegal ended up coming out badly in the guide but they don’t have any, either IT or university, up there.
In response Paul Hannigan, Director of Letterkenny IT: said “The impression that Donegal is the poor relation with regard to third level education is misleading.”
Classic.

Perhaps the Labour party can make it a campaign pledge to bring third level education to Donegal. That would be one promise they could keep.
Another issue Paul Hannigan often highlights is the Sunday Times tables, which count how many students from each secondary school go to a University or IT. Donegal, and other border counties, miss out in this as the tables don’t count the numbers going across the border. I went to the University of Ulster in Derry, but that doesn’t count for the league tables. Many schools in this area send large numbers to third level in the North, but the county performs poorly in the tables.
That said, this is a very unfortunante gaff on Jan O’Sullivan’s behalf.
