Scully video published in error

Read more about: Blogging, Fine Gael, Limerick East

The video of Cllr. Diarmuid Scully that appeared on YouTube yesterday was meant for internal use and was unintended for publication. The video was pulled from YouTube today.

According to Cllr. Scully, two videos were intended for upload, one was for public viewing and the other, the election campaign video, was meant only for party insiders to view and give feedback.

The publication of the wrong video is being put down to unintentional miscommunication.

The publishing of the video caused some confusion as to whether the former Mayor was going to run as an independent candidate.

The video has since been pulled from YouTube, and due to technical errors, the intended video, which was talking about the Limerick City boundary extension, has to be reshot.

so is he running? or do we know?

    Good man squid!

I think he would love to run, but the jury seems to be out on a decision of whether he should run for FG.

It was a bit of a boo-boo alright.

Forgive my ignorance but how does one upload a video in error to Youtube, not having uploaded any videos myself I presume that one has to go to a few step by step tasks before you have completed a successful upload!

A few too many coincidences in this story, the other video unavailable due to technical difficulties and the little matter that Mr Scully has not been selected to run at the FG candidate selection convention or been added to the FG ticket afterwards in Limerick East as far as I know! Maybe Mr Scully is trying to put pressure on the leadership to add him by hinting that he might run as an independent as did Pat Kennedy at the last election helping to deny then FG candidate Mary Jackman’s election and ensuring the election of the “very dynamic” Junior Health Minister Tim O’Malley LOL.

I think someone is trying to fly a kite and seeing does it fly!

There’s a story here. Time to get some mentions for The Limerick Blog and Irish Election in print.

Very interesting story alright. Pity nobody decided to copy it.

I imagine he had two videos in the same folder on his computer (or whoever was uploading did) and accidentally selected the wrong one.

Lets hope he never has responsibilities for the nuclear button. At least, not if he keeps it close by his ‘SERVICE’ button.

As for his policy, Limerick city should expand… into Limerick city suburbs. Hands off County Clare!

In all fairness, if he can manage to get himself on the main evening news and the same day whips up some interest online, he has to being something right. And all the while when he is not a declared candidate in the field.

Labour seem to be still thinking about running 2 in Limeric with the addition of McLouglin to the council team, and FF could yet be running 4 if Eddie Wade gets his way. It would make sense for FG to run 3 to get 2. That is what they did the last time get got two in Limerick East.

Both videos were meant to be uploaded to YouTube, but one was meant to be only seen by a select group, but the person uploading it made it public by mistake.

He should do what Bush does and fire ‘the help’!

Light goes on in head about the reluctance of FG to help get Scully for blogging election conference.

I seriously doubt this was a mistake. Scully is in a battle for his political life with Michael Noonan and this kite was sent up to put his desire to run for the Dail as a Fine Gael candidate back on the public agenda. Like many long serving TDs Noonan is terrified some young gun will emerge and take his handy gig from him. There are too many old TDs wasting space claiming to represent this country. Now Noonan is desperately trying to make sure the ticket is packed with no hopers in the tradition of Jackman who will never threaten his pay cheque. Scully was shafted by Noonan’s mob over the mayoral nomination but got the better of the old hand in that fight. I hope the powers that be in Fine Gael recognise that Scully is the future and Noonan is the past and put Scully on the ticket. If not then Scully will run as an independent once his patience runs out with old Fine Gael.

I met Scully once in relation to a planning issue I was working on in Limerick - an impressive guy. Who’s most vulnerable down there? PD’s O’Malley, or FF’s Power?

On the issue of him running as an independent, I found it interesting when I watched the video the first time, that he didn’t mention FG once.

I think that it was Scully that shafted his fellow FG councillors when he as the new boy in a hurry was not selected to be the FG nominee for the mayoralty in a fit of pique fell for the poisoned chalice offered to him by FF and it’s cronies for a short term advancement and 40 pieces of silver (mayor salary) and let himself be nominated for the mayoralty but like Judas he will find that his betrayal of trust will have long term consequences and he may find that his will have been a political career as a spoiler, the nearly man.

Time was when DS was very much Noonan’s man. Much has changed in 14 years :)

Limerick Lad, you can get the fuller history over on P.ie. I’m not going to bore people here with the details.

Limerick Lad, You clearly know nothing of what happened 15 months ago and the knife that was stuck in Scully’s back by the FG old guard. The fact that Kenny effectively kept him in the party (with a slap on the wrists for 1 year) in the face of demands from Noonan that he be expelled shows that Kenny knows that if FG is to have any future it needs young talent like Scully. Behind the scenes Scully came through as a favourite of FG Headquaters but was seen as a “judas” by the Noonan set on the elite Ennis road in Limerick. I find it interesting that you also chose to use the word “judas”.

Obviously not being an insider like yourself Limerick Man, my facts come from what was in the public domain, those on the inside may have different views depending on which side of the fence they sit on, you being on the “Judas” side or maybe even “Judas” himself.
As for the Ennis Road clique you mention as far as I know Michael is a County Limerick man who now resides in quite modest housing estate off the Father Russell Road and your attempt to paint Mr. Noonan as an elitist is misplaced and just downright wrong.
As for my choosing the word Judas it is a common synonym for people who betray their friends and colleagues.
Mr. Scully is an obviously clever man who could be an asset to Fine Gael but his maverick qualities and being in maybe to much of a hurry to get where he is going and may lose out in the long term which would be a shame for both Fine Gael and himself. Politics is littered with people who thought they could go it alone and were never heard of again. Mr. Scully should learn that loyalty to his chosen party is vital for if he is to build up trust with those who slog the streets on the parties behalf with no benefit to themselves. If he wants to be selected as a candidate for Fine Gael in the future he will need these party members to vote for him at convention or he will get the same result as the last time.

Is no one able to tell me who’d be most vulnerable if FG were to take two seats?

Although reading the bitchiness between the two FG Limerick factions here, I don’t suppose any of them need to worry!!

I would say probably Tim O’Malley.

  22. # Comment by Limerick Lad Nov 11th, 2006 15:11

Meath Man, Tim O’Malley is the man in the line of fire if FG were to get two seats, there have always been enough FF votes for two FF seats in Limerick but when Dessie started up the PDs they took two seats in the next election and held them till the last election when Dessie stood down. Willie’s fear that a more acceptable face of FF (Peter Power) would get elected and get the Ministerial car made him strive to keep the majority of first preferences to himself ensuring that his running mates were too far behind to pull up in the following counts letting the PDs steal the second FF seat leaving him as the only possible candidate for a Cabinet seat but his plans backfired and he was only ever given a Junior Ministery until finally he let Peter Power get in following a final directive from party headquarters “Bring in a running mate or you’ll never get a Cabinet seat”. Willie tried to get Eddie Wade as the other FF TD as he would never be considered for any position in Government.
As we all know Willie finally got his feet under the Cabinet table as Minister for Toy Soldiers usually reserved for old cabinet warhorses as a resting place till their retirement at the following election so that they are not humiliated by demotion at the end of their Ministerial careers, maybe Bertie is letting us know how high his esteem for Willie and Limerick is, with his elevation to such a “high” office.
