Make sure you’re registered to vote!

Fianna Fail have put up a site called RegisterToVote.ie which gives information about registering to vote and links to county and city council pages where you can check if you’re on the register. Not all the councils provide the page though, which is something of a pity.
Ignore that. “Keith” (not me, obviously) mentions another less partisan site below—CheckTheRegister.ie—so head to that instead. The links appear to be better too.

I know I am registered but when I checked it couldn’t find my road let alone me. But I think this is still a work in progress. Local authorities are still updating their lists which will then go on the site so I think the launch of the site was maybe a bit premature.
Dodgy (and expensive) attempt at duplicating the http://www.checktheregister.ie site?
“No Vote – No Voice”…right then and lobbyists like the Irish Vinters Federation shooting down cafe bars, the The Irish Offshore Operators Association influence in overturning An Bord Pleanalas refusal for Corrb planning permission etc. If you’ve got the cash you’ve got the voice. The idea that people only have a voice for one day every 5 years is nuts, people can have a voice in the 5 years in-between although it probably suits every government to spout the idea that voting is the only input into the democratic process we have.
@Keith: Updated.
@Gaz: You know, I agree totally. But then again, that’s not a reason to ignore the franchise.
Finally the government are doing something about the register. It has been a joke for years. I know a guy registered in five addresses here in Westport.
Hi wanted to see if i am registered to vote. I was on that site “check the register” but my info wasn’t showing. What shall I do.
Hi art I think that means that you are not register to vote. But don’t worry you can still register up to like 15 days before the polling. Check out here. http://rockthevote.ie/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5&Itemid=6
they have a decent guide to how to register. Basically you have to complete a form and send it to the council.
