Fine Gael Call on Mary Harney to Resign as Portlaoise Scandal Worsens

James Reilly is calling for the Minister for Health Mary Harney to resign after it was revealed that the misdiagnosis scandal in Portlaoise continued to claim more unfortunate victims. I think the problem is getting beyond the Minister in this case though, Professor Brendan Drumm is also getting roped into the politics of this scandal which seems inevitable considering the nature of the HSE/Dept Health relationship.
Jesus though, there is something about talking politics when so many women now face that harrowing experience of undergoing the tests all over again. Still it is the nature of the game, I suppose.

The call follows this morning’s revelation that at least 97 more women are facing a fresh examination due to concerns about their initial ultrasound tests.

Nine women have already been told that Portlaoise Hospital wrongly gave them the all-clear for breast cancer when they were in fact suffering from the disease.
