Whats up with the Left.

Ciaran Cuffe hasa an interesting post on his blog about the future of the left in Ireland.

Unless The Left realises that its job is not about protecting vested interests, but about assisting the excluded and the disadvantaged in society, The Left will continue to decline.

Comments directed as much at some of his own party as the rest of the left. I read the post and it struck me as quite Blairite in some of its outlook-something I haven’t seen from the Green’s before.

The point about public or private delivery being irrelevant to the outcome i.e. helping poor and disadvantaged, certainly read that way.

Having said that many of the problems he points up are indeed real problems for the Irish left and there is a side of me which thinks a good deal of voters would not even go so far as to say left parties are on the side of the disadvantaged, whether that is a problem of perception of actuality.

Good comment Cian and I have to agree with alot of it. But considering I have often tried to argue the “The point about public or private delivery being irrelevant to the outcome” I would :).

Cuffe is very interesting of late. I can’t quiet put my finger on it but he seems to be playing something trying to re-align the party or something. Staying away from the party line, providing a distance from FF.

The Green Party has sold out on most of its principles. It has agreed to an increase in the number of government committees and Ministers of State. More waste of taxpayers money. Ciaran then has the gall to lecture us about vested interests. Nice flowery language in the speech but in reality it is an enormous sack of gas.
