Just getting around to reading the Morris Report. One quick note. In the Irish Times Bredan Howlin (gets Jim Higgins party wrong) says
“I am confident that I acted responsibly at all times when allegations were made to me by a criminal lawyer with more than 20 years practice regarding senior gardaí in 2000. I brought the allegations in private to the then Minister for Justice and asked that he would have them investigated. I am at a loss to know how I might have dealt with the allegations differently,”
Well the report does say this as a way to act differently.
At the very least, Deputy Higgins should have insisted on a meeting with Mr. Togher and Mr. Frank McBrearty Senior, and Deputy Howlin should have pressed Mr. Martin Giblin S.C. for further detail and evidence.
More later if I get time to read the report
