This month’s Village Magazine

So, I bought this month’s village magazine (pictured) because the front page promised me an in-depth intelligent look at Eoghan Harris and his nomination to the Seanad.
There are indeed four articles in Village in which Harris features. All written by Vincent Browne.
While Harris acts as the sticky (pardon the pun) tape joining all the articles together, only one of the articles was really about Harris. Mostly, the articles were used to have a go at Bertie, the Worker’s Party in the 1980s and the Democratic Left wing of today’s Labour party. But overwhelmingly the articles were used to have a go at the Independent News and Media Empire and how the many journalists in that empire speak with one voice - at one time they were all pretty much anti-Fianna Fáil and then they swung to become pro-Bertie.
A peculiar by-product of begining to join up dots in my mind was the realisation that the Independent newspaper is so strongly influenced by two families.
The O’Reilly’s obviously.
However, Eoghan Harris (Opinion writer for the Sindo) is the ex-husband of Anne Harris (deputy editor of the sindo), who is mother of Constance Harris, (Fashion writer with the sindo) and is partner of Aengus Fanning (Editor of the sindo) who is father of Dion Fanning (Sports writer with the sindo).
The sindo is read by 1,000,000 people every sunday. Comments?
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
Eoghan Harris is Aengus Fanning’s partner. Nice.
No. I have read it a few times, think I might put in a few punctuation marks to make it clearer and I still think I have been unambiguous, like.
Oh God. Now my comment it ambiguous. 2nd effort:
No. I have read it a few times, thinking I might put in a few punctuation marks to make it clearer and I still think I have been unambiguous, like.
Incest is best
Nah, I’m not really thinking that it is so much who these people are. Simply that on some level, we reckon that the media represent a diverse set of views with opinions coming from all over the place. Ironically, this epiphany came to me as I read the fourth article that Vincent Browne wrote in his own magazine
I’m going to start my own publishing empire with contributions only from me and my family and my family’s family….and their family.
Another card from the Talbot Street Happy Families pack:
Eoghan Harris’s colleague from RTÉ and the Derek Nally campaign, John Caden, is the father of Sarah Caden and thus father-in-law of the insightful, handsome and hilarious Brendan O’Connor.
Jeez, and people think that the Sunday Times is a little too British? Seems to me that the Sindo writers have taken to modeling themselves on the Windsors. Their descendants will no doubt display many deficiencies.
I wonder did Sir Anthony O Reilly have anything to do with Harris being made a Senator. Caligula’s horse. After all lokk at Harris outburst on Late Late Show. The Sindo is a disgrace, why does anyone buy it. FF rag and sex pest paper, with all about Gerard Keane and his new lover, Bertie and Celia, what about Aengus Fanning’s partner
Sex pest?
The Village articles follow in a trend of anti-O’Reilly and pro-Denis O’Brien coverage from VB. I’m not defending the O’Reillys or the SIndo, but let’s not have any misunderstanding about where VB is coming from. Phoenix Mag reported that VB was seeking investment from DOB for Village.
Rainy, are you suggesting that VB’s motivation is to acquire cash from Dennis? I don’t think so.
Let’s face it, in Ireland, if you’re going to run a publication like Village, eventually, you’re going to have to get investment from either O’Reilly or O’Brien’s extended families. And I can’t see O’Reilly investing in Village. So yes, VB may be seeking funding from O’Brien and that’s not entirely unlinked to his attacks on O’Reilly, but I don’t think it is fair to suggest that his motivation is to get rich.
If VB had simply wanted some cash for Village, he never would have started attacking O’Reilly, denying himself a potential investor.
Clearly D O’B didn’t want to invest given the fact that the Village has now become the latest death on the newsstands. Wonder why??
