Spin Fein Again
Read more about: End of Shannon-Heathrow, Sinn Féin
Hey it is great to see the hypocritical crap still spewing from Sinn Fein. Today we had a press release from Sinn Fein’s Arthur Morgan saying
“Sinn Fein remains committed to the Trade Union movements’ demand that government exercise its strength as a key share-holder in Aer Lingus by demanding that the company reverse its decision to close the Shannon to Heathrow route.”
So if Sinn Fein is committed to reversing the decision to move the slots from Shannon to Belfast that means their policy is to stop the flights to Heathrow from Belfast. Which makes you wonder why Martin McGuinness posed for pictures at the launch. Surely he would be demanding the reversal of this move at that point of time, with the CEO, when he stood beside him if they believed that.

“if Sinn Fein is committed to reversing the decision to move the slots from Shannon to Belfast that means their policy is to stop the flights to Heathrow from Belfast.”
Er, no it doesn’t. It means that we think that a way to do both can be found. There’s another press statement on the SF website, from one of our northern comrades, saying as much.
Yes there is Wednesday with Zero suggestion about what to do about it. http://www.sinnfein.ie/gaelic/news/detail/20145.
So where do Sinn Fein say that the slots should come from? Cork Dublin. There is only 2 leased out. Where is Sinn Fein suggestions on that. It is a nonsense statement with nothing backing it up. Also if they are so against it why was McGuinness so happy about it. Where was he saying that this is wrong that the slots should not have gone to Belfast?
I agree with you it’s not the best written statement, but the fact is that it was made and that it proves you wrong that stopping the Shannon flights is our policy.
As for McGuinness, it should be obvious why he was happy about getting slots at Belfast and I don’t know that he didn’t say anything about Shannon. It may not have been reported, but then most of the things we say aren’t. In any event, several other SF reps have issued statements condemning the decision to end flights at Shannon. Arthur Morgan, Martin Ferris, Maurice Quinlivan. There is a big article about it in this week’s An Phoblacht. The evidence that we are against that decision is quite easily available if you bother your arse to look for it.
