Affordable Housing Target Unmet

Read more about: Fianna Fail, Housing, Uncategorized

The target is 10,000 under the last social partnership agreement, current status is around 2,500. The NESC suggests that 73,000 over 8 years is a fairer target to keep people off the streets.

Indo:“Part V of the Planning and Development Act made it a requirement that 20pc of all new private housing units be set aside for social and affordable housing. Under pressure from the construction lobby, the then environment minister Martin Cullen later introduced the financial alternative.

The new figures show that while developers paid €16.5m under such provisions last year, more than €7m had been paid in just the first quarter of this year.”

And it doesnt look like the market will come back to meet us either.
