What happens when you complain

Read more about: Donegal South West, Local Government

Just before the election Anthony Sheridan sent a letter of compliant to Donegal County Council about posters Pat “the Cope” Gallagher had erected posters which allegedly broke litter regulations. He has been for a while trying to get answers.

This is the reply he got.

Dear Mr. Sheridan,

I refer to your letter of 23rd May 2007. Firstly let me apologise for the delay in replying. The Council is not aware of any signs erected by or on behalf of Mr. Gallagher as referred to in your letter. We did not receive any reports or complaints in respect of such signs. Therefore, the Council had no cause to carry out an investigation into the matter or to take any enforcement action against Mr. Gallagher. I trust this clarifies the matter.

The letter was signed by Liam McCarron, Director Water, Environment and Emergency.

So they did not receive any complaints even though the letter they were replying to started with

Subsequent to several phone calls and on the advice of Donegal County Council staff I hereby submit this official complaint regarding a breach of the Litter Pollution Act, 1997.”

Great to see how great our public services are. And the government wants to give them more power. I would be interested to know what Anthony does next.

Perhaps, being a citizen/taxpayer/member of the great Irish public isn’t good enough and you have to be running the Citizen 2.0 upgrade in order to complain.

Simon, who do we complain to about getting our country back?
