EirGrid is owned by the Irish State and is established as a result of a government decision to create an independent organisation to carry out the TSO function, in order to assist the liberalisation of Ireland’s electricity industry and the development of a competitive market. The members of the EirGrid plc Board are appointed by the Minister for Communications, Marine Natural Resources.
Not quiet the same thing is it? Separating a state owned company into 2 state owned companies does not sound as bad as handing over to a private company? Are we sure Frank Luntz is not working for Sinn Fein to spin out this crap?
