Make them Deny it

Read more about: Fine Gael

After the Lisbon Treaty debackle Leo Varadker came out and critisesed Enda Kenny in what could be said as the early stages of a coup. So what does Enda do. Blame Leo Varadker for the recent poor form.

In an apparent reference to the claims by one Fine Gael councillor that young TDs such as Leo Varadkar and Brian Hayes were contributing to the party’s low ratings, Mr Kenny robustly defended Mr Varadkar — who attended yesterday’s press event — and his colleagues.

“Leo is one of a number of very strong, young, ambitious, courageous, young people in our ranks both at town, county, city and Seanad level, and it’s my intention to use all their talents and give full vent to their ability,” he said

Simon, where in this article in the independent or in the piece you quote above does Enda Kenny blame Leo or Brian as “…contributing to the party’s low rating”. The article states it was an FG councillor who made that claim and Enda “robustly defended Mr Varadkar — who attended yesterday’s press event — and his colleagues.”. Seriously…where is the blaming?

Maybe blaming is too strong a word. what I was getting at with the title seems to. a “get them to deny this” kind of thing.

No it isn’t, Simon, the paper doesn’t even mention who the councillor is if they indeed exist at all. Dear God they could be talking about Apparathick over on p.ie for all we know. I guess if he hadn’t mentioned Leo at all, you’d be claiming he blanked him and that he was being shunned.

McDowellism hasn’t gone away you know. While I like neither Leo or Brian I think Brian has a bit more substance to him than Leo who strikes me as being a talented blusterer similar to Mickey D.

There may be a point that Enda is drawing attention to some people saying the two boyos are right of thatcher but not as electable by stepping in and showing some magnanimity and highlighting the talent. Its a subtle play if its what happened but maybe the strategists in FG are finally developing the arcan skills needed to get back into govt. Nah scrap that thought.

I fail to see in the text how Enda is blaming Leo Varadksr - seems like Enda Kenny is rising above any internal criticism. Think you’re creating big paragraphs of imaginary text between the lines.
