Mahon Tribunal Rules Against Bertie

Read more about: Bertiegate, Tribunals

In what might still be the endgame of the planning tribunal’s investigations of Bertie’s finances, chairman Alan Mahon has today ruled against Bertie’s legal submission on Friday that the Celia Larkin AIB deposit issues were outside its terms of reference. So for now Bertie’s appearance as a witness concerning the deposits will go ahead as scheduled, although he could now appeal the ruling to the High Court. Apparently recognising that Tom Gilmartin has become the loose cannon of the hearings, his legal team will not be allowed to cross-examine Bertie. So for the time being, we’re on course to learn a little more about the rent-to-buy house and the Manchester crew in a couple of weeks. Incidentally, Bertie’s pragmatic approach to once volatile social issues is on display today with his appearance at opening of Outhouse, a centre for the gay community on Capel Street. The secret of his Teflon success with the tribunals illustrated, perhaps.

    About time.

So the terms of reference got ripped up and the tribunal can now investigate anyone Mahon feels will allow them drag the arse out of the tribunal and secure more and more taxpayer money for the legal profession.

Who investigates the actions of the trubinal? Who has the power to say “ENOUGH it’s been 10 years but the free ride is over. Publish and get your grubby greedy hands out of the taxpayer’s pockets”.

    Are you Bertie in disguise?

No just a tax payer who would prefer my money to be spent on ambulances rather than Lawyers Mercs.

Flood, Mahon and the other blood sucking bastards in Dublin Castle have robbed the country blind for 10 years. Time to throw them out on their arse.

I would agree they are not value for money but I believe that paying a taoiseach’s salary (and all the fixings that go with that position) to someone who has effectively confessed to repeated impropriety in public office (merely spinning it otherwise doesn’t change that) is even less value for the taxpayers buck.

What is important this time around is that Mary Harney does NOT say that Bertie should be jailed for his improprieties.

Haughey’s “mouthpieces” saved him from a deserved spell in “The Joy” - because Harney was injudicious enough to be honest in her opinion - allowing that she had - and still has - a lot of confidential inside information and knew full well the source of Haughey’s ill-gotten gains.

Bertie’s only defense is that he is a fool; vain; forgetful; inaccurate; manipulated by his mistress and hugely arrogant(for all the wrong reasons).

He is also aware that Fianna Fail have been largely untouchable in the past.

When Ben Dunne thought he was could fly, Haughey was unlucky in being caught in the feathers that flew in Dunne’s Stores’ Boardroom.

Beverly Flynn should be behind bars - with her father. If she had been that unfortunate tinker from West Cork who defaulted on VAT on his horse sales, she would be breaking stones in Portlaoise Quarry.

Burke & Lawlor were sacrificed; others remain at large, and the biggest fishes of all have not had a gloved laid on them, so well are they protected by the FF Mafia.

And no doubt, come what may, Bertie will have State funeral, with lots of speeches about his achievements - if anyone can invent one - other than his introduction of the so-called Minimum Wage - which nobody in Ireland earns, thanks to his mates in the Beards and Sandals Masonic Order.

    PS

I was watching the RTE News - and the sickening spectacle of Tommy Gorman gloating at the fakery that was transpiring.

A group of dishonest politicians doing what they do best — being dishonest.

And what has happened to Wee Gerry Adams and his cute little TCD mate - Mary-Loo?

    History?
