Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
What next, as the Lisbon Treaty faces likely defeat? Will the Brussels elite shred Lisbon and try again? Will the sky fall on our heads for having the temerity to reject the plans of our shadowy overlords?
The options are;
1. The remaining 26 plow on, with Ireland having some UK like “special status”. This is likely to create domestic issues in a no. of countries, including France and the Netherlands. With another 8 countries left trying to push it through their parliaments, it’ll cause some tricky debates. Possible.
2. We’re told to try again and get the right answer next time. As times get hard (I’m a pessimist…right!), it could get more difficult to push through. We’ll also become the 2nd home of every Europhobe in the E.U. Unlikely.
3. We’ll “renegotiate” the treaty and achieve some hard fought concessions, before repeating the vote and passing it. (We’ll be bought off - as usual). Every country still to ratify the treaty will pull out a shopping list as well. Probable.
Is Enda gone? Various ways to spin the Mayo result (e.g. voter anger at Cowen) but hard for him to look good when he can’t carry his home constituency.
I would guess that alright
No way can enda manage. Alreay people were lookin at ways of gettin him out. I think cowen will get the rallyround while enda will be subject to much harder time.
Ruairi Quinn is on Newstalk now. Predictably, he’s looking around for any reason that doesn’t place the blame on his beloved Treaty.
All I know is that any No-supporters I talked to were concerned about the Treaty itself, and were not talking about the economy or any other issue. In fact, the No-supporters were more focused on the Treaty than were the Yes-supporters.
Great thx to all “No” Voters! You save the democracy and stop the eu-fake democracy!
THAX!!!!
