The Secret Vote

Read more about: Blogging, Government, Lisbon Treaty, Polls

Conor and Richard  have spent a lot of time deconstructing the poll “data” that has been circulating around the two major broadsheets in the past few days. Not alone does the data not tally in some cases (under-15s voting?, 105% of the electorate giving a response?) it is still not publicly available to peruse days after headlines were leaked to pol cors in both papers.

So where is it? Out there in the ether between the Taoiseach’s office and Brussles? Perhaps Brian can bring a copy back and we can begin to explain the no vote without plucking reasons out of thin air fun and all as that is. There was no exit poll done, I was told, for reasons of cost - by the time Pat Kenny was on air it was thought it would be old news and thus too expensive. Perhaps so if we had voted yes…..

Edit to add: On popping over to Dublin Opinion, stay over there Conor has picked up an FT reporting on the French shelving CCCTB plans:

Christine Lagarde, French finance minister, told the Financial Times that while the proposal for a common consolidated corporate tax base had not been abandoned altogether, Paris would no longer press other governments to back it over the next six months.

“It is on the agenda, but we are not pushing it,” said Ms Lagarde in an interview. “It is alive, but not kicking very much.
