Cabinet Rumours

Read more about: Uncategorized

Newstalk is speculating that the following will be the line-up of the new cabinet:

Brian Lenihan as Justice Minister.
Dick Roche out but may get a junior ministry later.
John O’Donoghue as Ceann Comhairle.
Most of the rest will stay as they were.

If that is the case then Bertie has no imagination. I cant believe the Greens would allow Martin Cullen to stay on as Transport Minister.

The one redeeming feature of that list is Brian Lenihan at Justice. He’s genuinely well qualified and it’s a bit of a mystery why he wasn’t in the cabinet before now. But Cullen statying at transport awful, not to mention of Willie “Make My Day” O’Dea at defence. I wonder also if the new junior portfolio for the elderly is yet another junior slot, as opposed to crafting it out of an existing one. All shall have prizes.

I’ve heard Dick Roche for junior minister for immigration and integration.

I wouldnt discount Dermot Ahern for justice now that the North is completed.

The Greens will be Gormley and Ryan BTW.

    Any idea where wednesday?

I cannot see lenhian at justice, it will have to go towards some of the challengers for the leadership. Cowen, Ahern, Hanafin and Martin to be up. Lenihan could get Martin’s portfolio if he is moved on.

If Minister for Voting Machines can be handed a no limit credit card in Transport then I think anyone could get any ministry regardless of experience.

Bertie was thinking of moving Dermot anyway to put Mary in Foreign Affairs so I suppose he would have agreed another portfolio with him already.

    I hate waiting…

With O’Donoghue gone and Roche likely gone, that leaves vacacies at Tourism and Sport plus Environment. Presumably Gormley will get a combined Cabinet portfolio of Environment and Nature Resources/Energy with Ryan possibly getting T+S?

possibly BB it is possible he could break up Envionment and DCMNR into a model like the EU with Environment I and II. That would make Dempsey homeless but a position could be found spending money on football clubs in Meath.

While sport isn’t prestigous its got a load of money to spend. Dunno if Bertie will let it go Green.

I cannot see Lenian at justice, but then I am not paid to and could be very wrong. I feel it is Ahern.

Here’s a blast from the past, what about Mary O’Rourke? Could she be a good outside bet for Transport to replace Cullen?

  10. # Comment by Delphinian Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

It’s possible (though unlikely) that they could get Foreign Affairs. If they did that would be Gormley with Ryan in Environment. Possibility of Education? or of whatever Dept includes Marine? Juniors for White and Cuffe in Agriculture and Transport?

    Greens cycling back to Dail!

My Green source said he thought they were getting Environment and Energy, he wasn’t entirely certain though.

  14. # Comment by Cian Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

which would suggest a split in the environment portfolios, wonder if that includes local government? Giving greens the chance to reform the local government structure and (possibly) planning

  15. # Comment by Delphinian Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

Would that be an all-in-one ministries or separate with somthing else thrown in with Energy?

  16. # Comment by Delphinian Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

It would be good if they did get it but will FF let that go?

  17. # Comment by Delphinian Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

Brennan and Hanafin staying where they are.

  18. # Comment by Delphinian Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

Coughlan & O’Dea also remaining where they are. Bertie states that ministers in new portfolios at last reshuffle staying where they are.

  19. # Comment by Declan Jun 14th, 2007 18:06

Cowen, Martin, Dempsey, Harney, D Ahern, Brennan, O’Dea and Cullen are all back anyway.

RTE just said there is a rumour Cullen is moving to Defence.

I would like to know what problem people on this site have with martin cullen? He is not as Declan says “minister for voting machines”. He was minister for transport before the last dail broke up. The E-Voting machines were dry ran in meath or west meath in the 2002 election. they were very successful. the plans were already there, cullen just signed the order to buy them. Is it the fact he is from waterford that has peoples backs up? maybe its the fact Irelands fifth city has the representation at cabinet level it deserves, instead of some tool from ballygobackwards or another feckin minister from dublin? the man has done a good job in transport as far as i can see. i spend hundreds of hours a month on this countrys roads, and i will say i have seen a huge improvment in the last 3 years. To all you cullen bashers I say ,lets see how you feel in 5 yeards time

Fitzey, thanks for standing up for Waterford, it’s my home county :-)
