Web Roundup Day 12

Sorry to those of you expecting Suzy, she will return for tomorrow’s stint on the roundup. First up this evening is not our famous press release of the day (although parties are now competing for the title, we are informed), is a post worthy of press releasing. Eoin at Cearta makes a great case for the video from the RTE debates to be made free to use on the internet in the name of public service broadcasting. He has written to Cathal Goan and outlined the case to make “available online without restrictions, to promote and foster the widest possible dissemination of and discussion about, that debate”. If you read media and want to know what relation exists between media issues and doorstep issues, then the Cedar’s have what your after.
Their new poster ‘Canvasser‘ has been great reading so far and today’s post details issues-the-media-are-big-on-but-aren’t-coming-up-on-the-doorstep. Immigration is the one that stunned me. There are other categories of issue too all of which are mandatory reading for journalists, bloggers and politicians alike.
I missed it yesterday but Tom Raftery has just finished the first (of a mooted 5/6) podcasts with Batt O’Keefe. Dec is pleasantly surprised to hear that all questions were asked as-is. Well, Kudos to Batt for single handedly doubling Fianna Fail’s stock in the blogosphere. (Yes it is that low. Stop posting shite on youtube.)
Noel Dempsey has an encounter with an Tanaiste today; “After the ceremony the Taoiseach, myself and Micheal had a brief chat about the campaign. ‘I’ll love you and leave you”, says Michael as we finish up. There’s a moment’s silence. A pause. And then a big laugh from everyone. Laughing, he clarifies he was ‘only talking about leaving us here now….’”.
Steve Flinter has an interesting analysis of web presence of candidates in Dublin South Central, his conclusions are unsurprisingly mixed. Cllr Eric Byrne is a blogger (which is good) two candidates only entry is on the Dublin City Council website (which is bad). In between is mixed. I think this one is a bit special (as is Meath East) but special is never far from prototype in situations like this.
Lots from Limerick tonight. First up, Limerick Blogger points us to a new blog dedicated to Limerick Transport issues check out moving limerick. On top of this, Squid set the standard again by getting out to the Green Party’s announcement on Limerick policy (primarily transport).
New blog for me all the way from Cork, Dave Forsythe running the honest hack sets out his defence of the Nurses following the cold reception Mary Harney got at the INO Conference today. I understand that those who know nurses are accused of bias but when one is a journalist (cynic by definintion) and the other an FF candidate there is certainly something amiss.
Near 90.3 FM (based in Dublin North East) are podcasting candidate debates on the issues of the area among constituency candidates. Questions came from a live audience as well as texts and phone calls. Podcast is 30 odd minutes and is well worth listening to.
Last but not least, Thaedydal lists the Fianna Fail promises which jump out from the Manifesto of 2002 as unfulfilled. There are a lot.
Edit: Where are my manners, I forgot a bit of a laugh. Look no further than this votetube explanation for the odd video of Ciaran Cuffe and houseguest.
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
John Devane accosted Bertie during today’s limerick visit, He was carrying a plastic sword and asked bertie to “fall on his sword” and come clean about his finances.
Bertie tried to escape and was caught again by Devane only this time the guards intervened. Devane is one psycho mofo, after that. The election in Limerick east is going to be fun.
RE: the press conference, I got to meet “that woman” from the Limerick Post. found her to be very nice and now I feel bad for taking the proverbial out of the post
oh well…
I would love to have seen that. No chance you got footage for some you tube?
I am sure Devane has only done his chances good. Taking a sword to politicians is something most voters would like to do, Im sure!
Ah dont feel bad, I am sure the post will give you reason to do so again.
It happened while I was at the Green party thing. It was on the radio when I got home. I will listen out for Limerick Today in the morning and will record it if they cover it.
By the way, Tomorrow is Friday the 13th. … 13th day of the campaign that is.
