Web round up day 9
Read more about: Blogging, Irish Election, Irish Politics
Evening all, back from a trip to Cork where Bertie’s face is definitely absent from the lampposts - I think that’s more a ‘Cork and Bertie’ issue than a ‘Bertie and the house and the money’ thing. Whilst I was away I was glued to the radio and surfing a lot so not much catching up to do. However Google reader and my inbox are busy today on a Bank Holiday and here’s your round up for the day (and a wave to all the mainstream media journalists who are busily writing their own daily articles on the best of the web - glad to be of assistance!)
Firstly apologies to Aidan Culhane who was telling us all the other night about Labour giving us the bank holiday - it seems he was not the only candidate doing the flagging up this weekend. Ruairi Quinn T.D., (Labour - Dublin South East) the man who brought us the bank holiday when in office, press released today also (whilst working his canvassers hard!), as did Harry Barrett, the Labour Candidate in Mayo.
Today’s press release titles which caught the eye (or incredulity spot!) included FF candidate in South Kerry, Councillor Tom Fleming, warning that Labour would put half the land in the constituency under threat from free roaming hill walkers. Conor Lenihan (FF) and Bernard Allen (FG) are battling it out in a row over overseas development aid which I’m sure will transfer soon to an airwave near you if we ever get back to the issues in this campaign. Anyone else notice how quiet the PD’s were today? No press releases from their office, maybe they were enjoying Ruairi Quinn’s present of a bank holiday?
The candidates are reflecting on their first week on the campaign, with Noel Dempsey (FF - Meath West) recounting details of his standing ovation on Saturday from postmasters of all people (not one to hide his light or fan club under a bush is the Minister it seems!) John Gormley (Green- Dublin South East) is ‘blogging‘ press releases which is a pity because it’s supposedly fun in Dublin South East between him and the Tanaiste in the battle of the spin. Thomas Byrne (FF - Meath East) is still calling for change on government policy on autism, whilst also talking about lodging nomination papers and indulging in hearty breakfasts after doing so.
His opponent Dominic Hannigan (Labour) reflects on a positive week in terms of targets met and coverage obtained whilst videocasting outside another housing estate in his constituency. RTE seem to be starting to ‘blog’ or at least banter the election with a column called The Insider - no comments though!
On the Youtubes, the newest ‘candidate’ and feeling foul in Galway West but something that’s been in the water for a while (boom boom!) is Cryptosporidium.
Back to somewhat of a normal service tomorrow - whatever can be called normal in the election for the 30th Dáil.
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
Loving these blogging round up! Excellent work.
