Stop the presses - PD’s won’t go into coalition with Labour

Read more about: Coalition, Government, Labour Party, Progressive Democrats

From breakingnews.ie comes the news that Liz O’Donnell has said the PD’s are willing to form an alternative coalition if they don’t get enough seats with FF to form a government; but not with Labour. Nope, anyone but Labour.

Deputy O’Donnell added: “Our preference would be to continue in government with Fianna Fáil but if the figures don’t go that way we’d be open to negotiating with any party which has a perspective which is compatible with ours, that certainly doesn’t include the Labour Party.”

It’s not the biggest news ever, as it just means they’re saying they’re not adverse to going into coalition with the Greens or SF. However it feels a little like being rejected by the ugly person at the party who you had no intention of scoring. It still hurts.

To console ourselves, here’s the excellent and timely cartoon from the Irish Times today (from politics.ie). It’s funny cos it’s true….

Given that the Labour Party ruled out going into Government with the PDs last year, it’s hardly surprising that the PDs would rule out going in with Labour. Unsurprising, but pointless.

But they would be ok with the Greens? Despite them being against vaccinations and so on, (according to the PDs not me). Just looking for some clarity here.
