Rounding Up Day 3 of the Campaign on the Blogs

Read more about: Blogging, Irish Election, Web Roundup

So at the end of day three while some of us figure out how one can pay stamp duty on your rent or whatever the latest explanation is - a look at some blogging and non blogging from the campaign trail. In what will be a nightly round up of the best of the blogs, Maman Poulet seeks out the candidate bites dog stories…

Dominic Hannigan (Labour) is getting lucky with the bird droppings on the canvas in Meath East. Rumours of a two seat strategy on account of this christening…only rumours! Perhaps it’s his director of elections reminding the candidate who the boss is!

Finding a welcome for the Greens up the odd remaining empty pole in Dun Laoghaire, Ciaran Cuffe reports from the Dart Station canvass and other areas of the constituency.

Thomas Byrne (FF) wonders about the other candidates and their professional postering teams in Meath East - who is paying the bills?

Joan Burton (Labour) blogs on commuter canvasses in Dublin West and getting the FF switcher voter - a rare breed this campaign or maybe not? Liz McManus (Labour - Wicklow) has got a new motor and says that herself and some volunteers will be updating her blog on a regular basis during the campaign.

John Gormley (Green) has not blogged in a month, things must be very busy on the streets of Dublin South East. Joanna Tuffy (Labour) - Dublin Mid West - has not blogged since waving her sister off on the first train to leave Adamstown. Politicians love commuters - I’m sure David McWilliams has a term for this side of post celtic tiger Ireland!

AJ Cahill (Ind. - Meath) East has been interviewing voters and putting the videos up on youtube and his blog. Also vblogging and issue blogging during the campaign is Eric Byrne (Labour) with the only election posters in Dublin South Central (or anywhere else for that matter!) that have a blog address on them.

Aine Brady (FF - Kildare North) has begun a blog and her first main post is about transport and trains and seeking constructive debate with the Platform 11 lobby group. Platform 11 are constructively debating in the comments as is a father of an autistic child in the constituency seeking a school place. Michael O’Brien (Labour - Carlow/Kilkenny) showcases Labour’s video political broadcasts and apologises to Kilkenny residents who might not be able to watch them due to the lack of broadband. However Michael might want to make sure the next time he poses on the railway he is wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment!

If anyone knows of a Fine Gael or Progressive Democrat or Independent politician or canvasser (we are not choosey!) blogging the election please post something in the comments or email irishelection (at) gmail.com . We want to share the link love! I can’t find any FG blogs at all. Sinn Fein have an election blog for their candidates but it’s neither really current or a blog (interactive).

Colm O’Gorman (PD) is blogging press releases in Wexford which is a pity - hopefully he gets a minute or two to write about his experiences knocking doors and shaking hands. His colleague Frank McNamara in Dublin South Central is not blogging at all, the latest election newsletter last week had him still looking for a campaign PA and Mary Harney’s personal website is still being updated.

And so ends the initial journey of IrishElection.com into the candidates blogosphere, more tomorrow night!

I’m not sure you’ve caught the discussion on Aine Brady’s blog. She has been challenged over comments she made to the effect that the Clonsilla-Docklands rail service connects ‘North Kildare’ to the city centre - which simply isn’t the case. She has responded with the standard FF head office handout on Transport 21. I’m not sure there’s much to the promise to engage positively with Platform 11 other than a vague response to the comments made on her blog.

Oh I caught it alright - lets just say I should have labelled the irony a bit further on the constructive debate!!!

Apologies - there’s a shortened quote of your roundup on her own blog comments that took me astray. http://blog.ainebrady.com/?p=7#comments Just to clarify - I’m not a member of Platform 11, lest they be blamed for my pursuance of Aine. I just read their website.
