Rock the Vote in ‘Actually Quite Good’ shocker

There was a feature on News 2 tonight about Rock the Vote, who launched their first tv ads this evening. The main ad is here, and it’s good; gets the message across and not nearly as cringey as you’d imagine.
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
I was lost until Grainne came on at the end.
I have to wonder, though, if a lot of its energy will be lost by the fact that young people hoping to vote might see the advert after the deadline for voter registration passes.
I’m sure there are countless registered youth who won’t vote and need to be encouraged, and I support that, but what about the ones who are eligible for the first time and haven’t gone through the process of getting on the list?
adam that is a very good point. I thought myself, when i heard the launch date, it was starting to late on in the campaign, still we can wait and see.
Anyone looking to register check this post out http://www.irishelection.com/05/make-sure-you-cant-vote-on-24-may/
I think they ran a voter registration campaign as well, but it was pretty low-key.
I imagined that was going to be cringey and it was worse than I imagined. Much worse. What’s the hand thing? That is so lame it would make a snake walk with a limp.
as MP called it, ‘the w thing’ it is very american and i havent seen many students in ucd do it all that regularly. Still rock and roll and all that
If this is rock and roll I’m going to cut my ears off.
Not a bad ad, all things considered; and even if the target audience only becomes aware of it after this weekend’s deadline for final registration passes (see Dave and Daithí here), it could still raise awareness of the importance of actually votings, which would also not be a bad thing. But I have a different question: where has it been broadcast?
There is an ulterior motive behind question - I haven’t seen much tv recently, but if it’s been broadcast on tv, why is it not a poltiical advertisment, with all the consequences of that characterisation (including that it shouldn’t be broadcast)? And if if hasn’t been broadcast, but available only on YouTube and in cinemas, doesn’t that once again demonstrate the absurdity of our overbroad prohibition on political advertising?
actually continuesly crap
