Plus ca Change, Now a web-roundup too

There was an “appetite for change”, there was a platform for change but there were no votes for change. The fallout continues to baffle many from all around politics, the Fianna Fail vote share of 41.2% is a huge result for a government trying for a third term. The electorate seem to be prompting for a Fianna Fail led government with one of the Green Party, Independents or Labour. The knives are being sharpened in various corners as TDs take stock of what was a stunning turnaround in fortunes for Fianna Fail.

The opposition keep reiterating that there was a palpable appetite for change. Then why didn’t it translate into votes for them? Where did Fianna Fail make up the ground? That Sunday where the three boys arrived in tie-less shirts? The leaders debate? Or closer again to the election?

hat-tip to Kevin for French usage, at least I think its French.

Some bloggers have been reacting to the news of the result to, John can’t help but feel that five more years of FF government is a bad thing for democracy. Gerry and United Irelander are equally unimpressed with the rerturn to power of FF. East Meath blog was great all election. Here are some thoughts on the outcome.

JG isn’t mourning the demise of the Progressive Democrats and reckons it might present one of the left-parties with a chance to affect government.

Twenty has a very interesting theory on the way Liz O Donnell looks a bit like Madonna. Only broken.

Suzy’s moment of the day was twittering McDowell’s resignation before RTE had it. It was a great day all round. Thanks will be going out once election is done!

Spokesman is gloating, and rightly so. He had Carlow Kilkenny called from canvass returns on Wednesday night and was spot on.

Wednesday begins the inquest into Sinn Fein’s very bad day at the polls. One among many parties that will be reassessing things after the result.

you know FG/Lab/PD/Green would be 4 off a technical majority there. Take 3 indo’s and ….

Anyone who didn’t vote FF or the PDs voted for change. The choice was clearcut. Even if there were unrealistic “FF+Labour” voters they will have voted FF. People voting Green or Labour would almost entirely not have been voting for those parties to go in with Fianna Fáil.

    The majority voted for change.

There was an appetite for change - but no credible alternative offered by the opposition. Shame on them! The media says this was a hard fought campaign. Wait for the next one.
