Election brings out the crazies

Read more about: Media, Uncategorized

If you were not listening to The Last (First?) Word this morning, then you missed a classic discussion between Matt Cooper, Fintan O’Toole and Eoghan Harris. Basically, Harris ranted on when asked questions, and accused Fintan O’Toole of being “sleazy”.

Matt attempted to allow Fintan reply to Harris’ hysterical rant, but Harris wasn’t done yet! He threw a hissy fit and ran out of the studio. O’Toole was left a little shocked by the stage ferocity of Harris’ tirade while Cooper was more than a little amused.

Clearly, Harris had planned the stunt in advance. He didn’t even attempt to discuss the election in any serious manner. In fact, I doubt he could if he wanted to. With people digesting the dross that idiots like Harris write every week, is it any wonder that things turned out the way they did?

I heard it. It would have been shameful, if it hadn’t been so Bonkers.

    Fintian O Toole.

    Toole by name.

    Tool by nature.

They never read out my text saying “You forgot your Tiara Eoghan”. Cian witnessed the pre and post Green room drama too. In fairness Finatan did troll him to get a rise. Nice and subtle.

Harris is on Radio 1 now, repeating the same points he made on Matt Cooper

    No, frankly.

Cian will have to give us the inside story on the Harris hissy fit. I suspect that he dropped the angry voice as soon as he was off the mike. He was certainly a lot less emotional on RTE. I’d love to see these “hostile” headlines he claims appeared in the Independent.

he stormed out and there was no calming him down. He had earlier demanded not to be interrupted. Got interrupted. Left and there was a lot of, em, *noise* from him as he was leaving.

im not going to even chance printing it.

“He had earlier demanded not to be interrupted. Got interrupted. Left and there was a lot of, em, *noise* from him as he was leaving.”

Actually he left because Cooper was trying to stop him from interrupting O’Toole. He couldn’t seem to reconcile himself to the idea that his fellow panellist should be allowed to speak at some stage.

Harris is a nut job. Missed the Last Word thing but my blood was boiling listening to him on Radio 1 being allowed to come out with his fantastic bullshit without question.

He’s decided now that Ireland is that we are developing a two-party system like in Amerikay, which is perfectly in keeping with his adolescent views on politics and his despicably tendentious “analysis”. It’s one thing to be a rotten dissembler but he has the gall to make a fetish of his outrage on being exposed as a complete and utter bullshitter. He made a number of shit-for-brains assertions about his disgusting paper and its journalism.

I’d love to kick him in the nuts, but I suppose we have to respect the idea of care in the community.

“stupid” some ppl call it “left wing”

  16. # Comment by copernicus May 26th, 2007 16:05

Thanks for that Fergal. God almighty. According to Harris, the Independent was against Ahern (obviously hadn’t read its headlines) which was proof of its independence and decency. And the other papers, especially The Irish Times, were against Ahern which was proof of their degenercy and slimyness.

    He’s unhinged as fuck.

  17. # Comment by Fergal May 26th, 2007 16:05

Eoghan Harris left wing? Not in the last two decades, Brian.

Unless you thought I was referring to O’Toole. Though it’s beyond me how anyone could hear that clip and think anyone other than Harris is the stupid one.

Fintan says Bertie met up with Tony or Gavin O Reilly, but has no evidence of it: nice piece of journalism. I suppose we can assume the Times considers it bad journalism to talk to politicians direct. I wonder where it gets its stories from. Reuters, I suppose.

  19. # Comment by Cian May 26th, 2007 18:05

Cowen admitted going to meet the o reillys michael.

  20. # Comment by Fergal May 26th, 2007 18:05

Bertie himself has acknowledged that the meeting took place

  21. # Comment by michael May 26th, 2007 18:05

Oh … fair enough. Still, it does make the Times seem rather remote, like they are making a virtue out of doing very little work at journalism. Perhaps it is that kind of attitude amongst the elite that the voters are rejecting.

  22. # Comment by Cian May 26th, 2007 18:05

my take is that media are being given far too much credit in this. Michael and 42% of the electorate took the information on board and decided it was either a) not important or b) not sufficient in influencing their vote.

The media published and it took 12 days for this to resolve itself. Yes there were leaks but leaks work both ways.

It is down to voters to interpret media and make their mind up.

Because the paper’s managerial staff isn’t having private meetings with the country’s leader and the finance minister?

  24. # Comment by copernicus May 27th, 2007 00:05

I see we’ve imported the Fox News classification of the “elite”. Wonderful.

Lest you be under any illusions, Michael, the elite establishment in this country is Fianna Fail and its front bench of boarding school educated lawyers like, for example, William “Man o’ de peeple” O’Dea.

It’s tragic that if you use your brain in this country the mogadons cry foul and try to burn you at the stake.
