We’ve been missing a few bits of compulsory ephemera and staging this campaign. Ah the electoral rally - Thomas Byrne (FF- Meath East) had a visit from Bertie at the beginning of the month. And it’s recorded for posterity. I nearly ran round the corner to Dance World and bought a pair of hard shoes. The guy whipping up the frenzy at the beginning before Thomas comes to the podium is Johnny Brady - the retiring TD for the neighbouring constituency. Now I wonder how many times Johnny as spoken in the Dail …because I’m sure I am not the only one going Johnny who?? Damien has made Johnny an election celeb in his own right.
Give the Wicklow Boy his Dail Seat…Nicky Kelly’s (Labour - Wicklow) team beseech you in song. Rock the Vote have new videos. And Newstalk’s Henry McKean has his own election video complete with song…well I don’t think you could really call that singing.
And now for a look at the word from the blogger in the ’street’. Mary D in Loughrea despairs about her political intuition. Linda contemplates whether she’ll vote or not on her myspace blog. Greg a visitor to Ireland talks about the election posters and the interesting names of the parties, and thinks about stealing a poster in gaelic of the former head of the IRA - that’d be Gerry Adams. Ahem…
Splintered Sunrise takes a look at the mathematics of coalition. Brian Greene also does the maths and wonders why FF and FG have not ruled each other out and if Ian and Gerry can do the business then why can’t Bertie and Enda? Jack gives his readers a full and frank run down on the political parties including this gem…
Progressive Democrats: The name of this party is the latest in a long tradition of Irish fiction. These bastards are neither progressive nor democratic.
The last weekend before the election is a busy one for the candidates - so not a lot of blogging politicians around today. Liz McManus (Labour - Wicklow) reports on feedback from canvassers including the doorslamming on the policy on same sex marriage.
Press Release Title of the Day - or Press Release Typo of the day maybe? Oisin Quinn (Labour- Dun Laoghaire) tells us that Young People must be encouraged towards sport indie and outside school. Something of a Stone Roses, Manc thing going on there I think in Labour HQ this morning.
Kieran from Ice Cream Ireland continues with his Candidate and a Cone Photo series. Today it’s Breda Moynihan Cronin - who chooses a dairy free option. The Green Candidate in Kerry South - John Hickey was pictured the other day after engaging in a discussion on how Kieran and his company could use green energy in the factory! (Anyone else think that he looks like that guy from Sky News?)
*Update, Thomas Byrne tells Damien about Johnny, and campaigning country style and corrects my ignorance about Johnny Brady.
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
