One that matters, the Red C Poll has some interesting trends emerging as FF are now consistently coming back into the chasing pack. Granted their lead over Fine Gael is still big but nowhere near last Christmas and with a leap you hear the backbenchers gnashing nails and teeth.

Business Post/Red C Poll:

Fianna Fail: 35% (-1)

Fine Gael: 27% (+4)

Labour: 11% (-1)

Green Party: 9% (+1)

Sinn Fein: 8% (+1)

PD: 3% -

Other: 7% (-1)

Below fold for the Indo one.

Sunday Independent/Millward Browne (also read as ‘pinch of salt’)

FF: 38% (-1)

FG: 23% (+1)

LAB: 12% (-)

GP: 6% (+1)

SF: 8% (+1)

PD: 4% (-1)

Other: 8% (-2)

Thanks Cian, always hand to have them here in a concise format.

So the next question is do “You Want To Be Taoiseach?” - only kidding but Ardal is quite funny and the second episode is now online and its decidely less morbid than this.

If the PDs get 4% then that’s the same as last time - so much for the much-heralded (at every election) wipeout by their critics in the media.

Brian they got pretty much 4% in 1997 and got 4 seats. Opinion polls tell little about the smaller parties

FT, are you diss in the RED C now in favour of the IMS one? I thought you believed the RED C were Gospel?

No Dan I do believe the Red C one more but only time will tell. However considering the margin-of-error 3% and 4% are basically the same in polling-terms.

true considering margin of error, PD vote could be 0%-4% depending on which poll you take.

The Sunday Business Post poll looks very strange to me in that I find it nearly impossible to believe that FG surged 4% in one month. I can think of nothing in that has happened in the last month to explain it, unless we are to believe that Enda’s Ard Fheis speech was that good.

If that is indeed the case, expect many more heartfelt speeches on the dignity of life as a Lighthouse Keeper in the West of Ireland in the run up to the election from all sides.

P.S. given the margin of error would the PDs support not be anywhere between 0-8% and not 0-4%?

    Quite right, my mistake.

The surge is a bit of a mystery however it does chime with polls taken in some local areas suggesting a fall back in FF support. Im not sure how much momentum there is behind FG though as the two indo polls suggest less thatn 28%

Telephone-polling is more accurate as shown by ICM in 2002 which was the most accurate poll. As such I think Red C are correct.
