Meet James Heffernan: Labour’s Candidate in West Limerick
Read more about: Labour Party, Limerick West

It has been ten years since a Labour candidate has put themselves forward for a Dail seat in West Limerick.
But that is all about to change as 27 year old James Heffernan has been put forward to represent the party in the constituency, with hopes to win a seat there.
Mr. Heffernan, originally from Kilfinane, recently returned to Limerick after working as a teacher in London for two years.
A graduate of the University of Limerick, James holds a BA in History, Politics and Social Science.
The Heffernan family has strong links with the GAA in Limerick, particularly hurling. James’ brother Pat Junior, and his father, Pat Senior, played for the Limerick Hurling team.
So, what has he got to say for himself.
“I was always interested in politics and the policies of the Labour party appeal to me because of their concern for ordinary people.
“As a young person I decided to become involved because the main parties have not really addressed the issues fracturing our society.
“We are creating a two tier society – we are forcing the life out of rural areas while building huge new apartment blocks and massive motorways.
“We are developing a first class and a second class health service where those who cannot afford to pay are put on long waiting lists while those with money are given the best treatment. As a country we must cry halt if we are to remain a caring society.”
Whether he follows Jan O’Sullivan in writing a guest post for me remains to be seen.

“I was always interested in politics”
Classic!
A BA in Politics and now running for the Dail. We’d never have guessed.
“was always interested in politics and the policies of the Labour party appeal to me because of their concern for ordinary people.”
Implying he is above ordinary? Better than The Local (CCC)Crooked Collins Crew, I suppose!!!
Best of luck to James in the election
Mr Heffernan i am concerned with the deterioriating behaviour of Irish sports travelling abroad. At a recent Heieneken Cup final in Cardiff I witnessed some disgusting scenes as one fan in particular was ejected from a club after fighting with a door man and was subsequently arrested. Have you any plans to tackle this decline in moral fibre of Irish society
well, i voted labour, but i’m not in your constituency, which removes my dilemma. i still have grave concerns about the uneven distribution of wealth re.the proceeds of the school magazine circa 1996. if the lost funds (approx 12 pounds, to be adjusted to euros with interest) could be donated to some charitable cause, i’ll stop giving out about it.
fair play to you for having the neck, at least, to stand for election. it’s like something from a pat mccabe novel!
