Mary Harney Txting in the Dail.

Last night I was flicking through the TV channels and I came across the Insomniacs favourite Oireachtas Report. It was a debate about Health. Dr Liam Twomey of FG was responding to Mary Harney and then the Camera came back on Mary. She was txting on her phone. Is this the level of respect politicians have. Dr Liam Twomey did not even question it. Is it that common?. Brian Greene also spoted this. Even if she was on to Brendan Drumm asking for information it is not acceptable.

On a marginally related note, another insomniac’s favourite would be the section of BBC Radio 4 Today in Parliament where they report the Northern Ireland debates. The background noise during questions to Peter Hain was incessant. At least Mary sticks to silent activities :-)

I think I saw this, Nigel Dodds MP [DUP] was on his feet, the background din was up at -6 to -3 db and one had to fight to hear him speak. The Harney shot Texting was a cut away piece, they could have stayed focused on her for the entire answer but soundbyte coverage does not allow us this. I think standing orders of the dail should be suspended to debate HARNEY’s TXT LOVE AFFAIR.

Maybe Mary was texting Colm to establish which one of the four main parties he really really wants to represent as a candidate.

If this is really a big issue, the next thing we know they’ll be making it illegal to text while driving.
