Libel and the Irish Internet
Read more about: Blogging
I am not sure if ‘the Irish Internet’ is the correct term but it is more than sufficient here for a brief mention of the politics.ie issue. I don’t want to rehash the origins of the story nor can I do much better than Fergal over at Tuppenceworth, Worldbystorm at the Cedar Lounge in encouraging sense and a bit of reason in appraising this.
I am actually only posting to plug Fergal’s colleague Simon McGarr and repost his speech on libel in Ireland and the internet from the Blogging the Election conference. The speech was illuminating for all of us on the day and little has changed in the law since he gave it. I have relistened to it twice this week and every blogger worried about libel needs to listen to it. There is also Fergals’s Irish Times piece and the Digital Rights pamphlet to further explain the position.
