Fine Gael and Labour pencilled in this morning for the launch of their joint manifesto, on which more later. Fianna Fail played the interesting tactic of prebuttal (hat-tip DDP on Morning Ireland today); before the big FG/Labour launch they released their own document ‘FG/Labour Make Prosperity History‘. PDF here. As had been suggested elsewhere, there was indeed someone in the backroom of Merrion Square keeping a list of commitments made by opposition over the last five years. I certainly get the feeling that Fianna Failure have been sitting back on a lot of topics and planned to come late to the election. Kenny & Rabbitt have been on Newstalk every day for for the last few months announcing some kneejerk policy or other (but then again Eamonn Keane’s lips are surgically attached to Kenny’s arse so I suppose if he wants to go to work then Kenny has to come also).
In the last week Government ministers & TDs have been far more active on the airwaves spinning their wares and have even dared to enter the odd debate with opposition. Fianna Fail posters have shot up around the country in the last 48 hours. I think the the phoney war is finally ending. Will Bertie be going to the Aras before the weekend?
