The PD’s have been the butt of most negative political commentary for the past year or more.
This is not altogether surprising, as the media in Ireland is primarily left-leaning, particularly RTE Radio & TV. Their newscasts are heavily edited & the bias in favour of left wing politics is obvious.
This is no bad thing, because intelligent people are highly aware of bias & will question the motives.
The PD’s represent everything that the Trade Unions; civil servants; the unemployed and those incapable of recognising progress loathe.
Bertie Ahern, one of the most incompetent Prime Ministers this country has seen since de Valera, has mesmerized the electorate by his homespun charm & his own special brand of waffle.
If anyone can name one piece of original thinking this man has tabled, I would be interested to hear it. In this I refer to his particular bailiwick - The Republic of Ireland. He speaks loftily about “De minimum wage” that he introduced - but very few people working in the Celtic Tiger need concern themselves about this.
Comrades Begg. O’Connor & their fellow travellers pay themselves royally.
Bertie talks the talk on matters over which he has neither responsibility nor power, knowing he cannot be held accountable. An example is Northern Ireland. Whatever ensues, the buck will land on the plate of the incumbent British Government.
The European Constitution was another example. A rotating Presidency - not an elected post - is a perfect smokescreen for Bertie to use to adumbrate the concept that he speaks and acts with authority.
His background in trade unionism & horse trading made him the ideal person to rally the support for compromise - his favourite breakfast cereal.
But responsibility? It flopped, but was he held culpable? Never. It was doomed from the start & he was probably unconcerned. He had his hour of photo opportunities to wear his yellow trousers.
The PD’s, in contradistinction, actually put in a day’s productive work. They are more than aware where this train is heading, with Cowen riding to orders since Charlie McCreevy was banished to Brussels & Brennan removed from his threatened confrontation with Comrades Begg, O’Connor et al.
Bertie; the banks; stockbrokers; motor car salesmen & estate agents are all singing from the same hymn sheet. And why not? Any suggestion of a slump in housing will hurt them severally & individually.
It was exactly the same in Japan before the bubble burst - huge bank loans secured by overvalued Balance Sheets. It is only now, more than 20 years later that they are getting their house back in order.
Why are so many of the nouveau riche Irish people investing anywhere except at home?

The campaign of enumerating the A & E trolley saga is factually misleading, unless each change in the occupancy is logged. The presumption is that it is the same people that are on the same trolleys every day.
Crime pays & will continue to increase in tandem with the huge wealth created by the credit boom. As the new money is blown on ever bigger & more expensive toys, thieves will proliferate.
Cocaine has always been the recreational choice of drug of the super rich.
The young have so much disposable income & new found freedom of choice that they will always be a soft touch for the pushers from the terrorist organisations.
The Gardai love operating speed cameras. All that training in Templemore to be an amateur photographer. But can P.J Stone get his head around this? And driving the Miss Daisys of Dail Eireann shopping & taking the children to school; sometimes breaking the legal speed limit to catch the first race at Mallow; other times reading comics outside golf clubs while the Minister pays court to his mistress.
Has Bertie driven a motor car in Dublin in the last ten years? Has he ever had to try & catch an airplane in Collinstown? Has Cullen? Do they know how much a litre of petrol in his Mercedes costs the taxpayer? Does he care?
Would you, if you could get away with it?
THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS THAT SHOULD ENGAGE THE MINDS OF THE ELECTORATE.

The reality is that the PD’s have consistently shown up the incompetence of their associates in Government. For that they must be punished, while their “PartneRs” remain silent, sitting on their hands.
Do we hear Bertie condemning IRA violence & criminality? His namesake stated, more than four years ago, that he would have no problem going into a coalition with IRA/Sinn Fein. it surely did him no harm in North Louth, but that was long before they made their token disarmament.
No. Once more it has fallen to the PD’s to draw attention to the unpalatable facts.
No wonder the media are having a field day.
