Missed this earlier this morning, it appears senior handlers in Fianna Fail are worried about a possible split in the party in West Cork. The NEC have finalised the Fianna Fail candidates to go forward in Cork South West however they decided a convention was surplus to requirements.Former independent Christy O Sullivan has returned to the safe warm bosom of party politics running alongside incumbent FF TD Denis O’Donovan. Fianna Fail Councillor and Leader of Cork County Council Alan Coleman was, it seems, the one who had to give way, banned as he was from going forward for nomination.
“The move has led to concerns that some party activists for Cllr Coleman might be unwilling to canvass for Christy O`Sullivan in the General Election.
Denis O`Donovan TD says it is his understanding that a series of `clear the air` talks are planned within days. Deputy O`Donovan has also been strongly critical of the way the selection was handled by party HQ. ” U.tv

Similar problems in Dublin North East with Senator Fitzgerald of FF supporters not happy about the lack of a convention there.
And also the problems with Cllr Deirdre Heney (I think) in the Dub NC/NE with complete failure to accomodate the parties largest vote-catching Cllr on any ticket.
I doubt that this will really depress the campaign though. A party too in love with power. Once Bertie does nothing to change the NEC decision they will get on with it, as usual.
