Petition Some Comments

Read more about: Blogging, Vote Saturday

The petition is still going and going quiet well. Here are some of the comments left.

The government constantly comment on the lack of 18 to 25 year olds voting, and then they go and organise an election that actively discourages them from voting. It’s a disgrace.

As a student representative in UL Students Union, I find this attempt to undermine our democracy really disturbing…but not surprising with this government!

Looks like the Taoiseach wants to throw about his power while he still can. Holding the election on a Thursday in May means right in the middle of exam time, even the most avowed young voter would have trouble choosing voting over an important exam.

If the Government truly wants to increase voting numbers they should have voting open at the weekends.

Many of us work or study in locations other than our homes. We number in the tens of thousands. We want to vote so why does Bertie Ahern want Thursday voting when clearly this will not allow us the opportunity to vote? Could it be that he’s afraid that we’d vote for somebody other than Fianna Fail? Never.

We are asked to vote yet we don’t have flexibility to do so?
