Martin Ferris In Trouble

Read more about: Kerry North, Sinn Féin

The Sindo carry the story that Sinn Fein TD Martin Ferris has been accused of calling a group of travellers “dirty smelly pavees”.

The alleged incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Tralee, after Mr Ferris went to the halting site along with another Sinn Fein official. It is understood they asked for the return of tools taken from a building site. According to witnesses, they had a heated exchange with a group of men who resented being accused of stealing. Other Travellers gathered and gardai were called. Two squad cars arrived and Mr Ferris and the other man then left the scene.

As pointed out in the comments, Ferris denies 100% the charges although the Guards are investigating the incident.

Mr Ferris told local radio yesterday: “Without any ambiguity whatsoever and with 100 per cent certainty, I didn’t under any circumstances use racial abuse towards anybody. I find it [the suggestion] most insulting to myself and to everything that I stand for. Gardaí have not been in contact with me.”

Sinn Frin IRA vs Travellers. Gang warefare on the streets of Kerry. The head of the Kerry Tourist board must think he is living his worst nightmare.

Last year this country legalised the shooting of travellers in the back when they are crawling away from your property. and not one politician called a halt and said “now wait a minute here.” I don´t see how Ferris´comments are going to either blacken the name of politics in this country anymore then they already have been, or how it is going to cost him any votes.

Actually, Ben, the Greens and Labour said “now wait a minute here”, in fairness to them.

    “now wait a minute here”

With political leadership like this, it’s no wonder that Ireland is the strong, noble and incorruptible democracy it is today.

paul thanks for mentioning that i missed the piece this morning. Ive added it in and I agree that the Sindo runs its own vendetta in regard to Sinn Fein. Still it could materially affect the outcome in Kerry North and not in the way we might expect.

Last time out the Guards were also involved with Martin at the time and he seemed to benefit more than anything from the treatment. As such I have to agree with Ben’s comments to that extent.

BTW, the story’s not true. I’m not sure if this matters, it obviously doesn’t to the Sindo, but it might be worth noting nonetheless.

Jonah, if its not true, Ill gladly correct the record. Last I saw in the press there was an investigation and martin’s denial posted above.

Well what ever happened to this investigation? Perhaps the Sindo should now clarify that this story was in actual fact complete BS.
