Mahon inches closer

As Bertie works his way back Washington, yet another interesting development at Mahon. It seems that the relevant manager of Bertie’s accounts at the Irish Permanent is a bit less reticent than his counterparts at the AIB, who were nearly as effective at the strategic memory loss as Bertie himself. The man from the Irish Permanent says that the reason that Bertie’s lodgements look like sterling amounts is almost certainly because they were. Apparently Des Peelo wasn’t available to find other formulae that would have resulted in the same transactions. So Bertie “needs more time” to reconcile it with his own claim that it was salary cheques. And the game continues: Bertie adjusts his story just enough to fit whatever facts are presented. But he might have a problem this time. Incidentally, Bertie’s relaxed attitude to ex ante tax compliance stands makes for an interesting backdrop against the case of Fr Tadhg O’Donovan.

if this were an account for Bertie and Tim i.e. B/T it also suggests that he has told further untruths to the tribunal by telling them he had no account during his period as finance minister. It was suggested by the bank manager today that Bertie and Tim controlled the account - not fianna fail.
To day, at the Mahon Tribunal, Bertie Ahern’s personal secretary was told, by Des O’Neill SC, that lying to the Tribunal was a Criminal Offence, punishable by 6 months’ imprisonment and fines of €300,000.
Did Mr. O’Neill, on any occasion, when cross examining Bertie Ahern, issue the same admonition?
Mr. Ahern, like his secretary, is a public servant, a civil servant, the same as a fireman or a Corporation dustbin man.
He is your employee, in spite of his arrogant assumption that, in some way, he is above the requirements of performing an honest day’s work.
Mr. Ahern seems not to understand the meaning of Truth. He lies, blusters, prevaricates; stumbles with his inability to articulate the language - and continues lying.
Why is he not behind bars?
Mary Harney, famously stated that Haughey should be locked up for his contempt for the law and his thieving.
As a consequence, Haughey’s Counsel managed to persuade the Judge that Harney’s apt remarks were prejudicial to Haughey getting a fair trial.
Notwithstanding Bertie’s wholly unjustified eulogy at the Fianna Fail funeral, for the old Pickpocket, Haughey should have been committed to prison, as was fully merited.
The same applies to Bertie Ahern.
The reverend Tadgh O’Sullivan was jailed for 6 months and fined €600,000 for a much lesser offence.
There was a time when Catholic Clergy seemed to be above the law & could sin with impunity; flogging & buggering children in their care; procreating children & using church collections to maintain a “married life” style.
This has ended.
It is now time that Bertie & his crooked associates, in Fianna Fail, lost their “Get Out Of Jail Free” Card.
