On the same day that a survey showed Irish people are the EU’s top binge drinkers, Tesco is running a buy-12-cans get-12-cans-free promotion in the national media for St Patrick’s weekend, according to Fianna Fáil Dáil candidate Cllr Michael McGrath.The supermarket’s promotion of a culture of excess on the same day that an EU-wide survey attests to our national binge-drink profile is irresponsible and socially destructive.
This coming from a guy who runs a clinic every Monday (except bank holidays) at Cogan’s Bar, Main Street, Carrigaline. Anyone see the irony?

What irony? A sociable few drinks in a pub is not a bad thing and is not the same as promoting alcoholism. So what if he has a clinic in a bar?
If anything, the most drunk people on an average night probably got drunk at home, not in the pub.
PS: I don’t even drink, so maybe it’s ironic that I’m making this comment?
