Greens jumping on McWilliams Band wagon
Read more about: Green Party
David McWilliams is probably one of the countries favorite economic thinkers. So it now looks like the Greens want to capitalize on this to spread a kind of message that Greens are not just Hippies we are robbopaddy, we are kells angels, we are breakfast roll man, we are floppy haired journalist who likes to come up with nicknames man. I guess this is part of the Greens attempts to mainstream the party. From Green Party HQ.
David McWilliams and Vincent Browne are closet Greens, says Sargent
Why am I reminded of the South Park line. Tom Cruise wouldn’t come out of the closet
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
Aren’t you the chap who said that the Greens were the party supported by the rich in our society? So where exactly do you see the irony. I think the fact that the Greens has a lot more successful entrepeneurs among its membership than the PDs ought to prompt people to think, hey, maybe these guys are on to something.
My point about the tom cruise quote is I doubt the Green Party is ever going to get an indrossment from either of those to journo’s I doubt they will endros any party.
I have spent 2 long debating such issues with you copernicus but a persons background has little to do with their ability to come up with policies. Sean Lamass probably Ireland’s best economic reformer trained as a Garda.
In fact David McWilliams is the one that says “that the Greens were the party supported by the rich in our society? “
I think the point being made in the release was that McWilliams was jumping on the Green bandwagon rather than vice versa.
Sean Lamass… …trained as a Garda.
Not exactly true. He was a Training Officer for a short time when the Gardaí were first set up but he quit when he discovered he was being paid by theFree State and not the government of the Irish Republic. At the time he did not recognise the legitimacy of the Free State.
probably Ireland’s best economic reformer
I suppose, if by reform you mean correcting the disastrous protectionist economic policy that he himself originally implemented.
Not exactly true. He was a Training Officer for a short time when the Gardaí were first set up
Quiet true but I never said he finished training
In fact it seems to be the only thing I can find that he ever did that did not involve politics, prison or fighting
Still though he never was in business. Lemass was interesting he wanted to implement many of the reforms he did in the 1960s but until he became taoiseach was he actually able to implement his idea’s Dev had a lot of control over the cabinet back in the day.

It is quiet shocking what the various party policy’s were.
‘Greens has a lot more successful entrepeneurs among its membership than the PDs’
Source?
I was referring to the parliamentary parties. I should have made that clear. In which regard, I direct you to the nearest copy of Nealons.
‘I was referring to the parliamentary parties’
Rather a lot of educators in the Dáil Greens too!
From what I can find.
Ciaran Cuffe was a lecturer
Trevor sargent was a teacher
PAUL GOGARTY a journolist
Dan Boyle community youth work, in disability work, in social housing, in arts administration. he has a degree in Business and child care alright but no idea if he has a business.
John Gromley is a mystery can anyone fill it in.
And Eamon Ryan has a successfull tourism business Irish Cycling Safaris.
I believe John Gormley was also a teacher.
Ciarán cuffe is an architect by training and has been a company director, possibly in a ’social entrepreneur’ type of business but related to physical regeneration in Dublin.
Even by this count, two out of six aint bad, compared with none out of the PDs.
really what I could find said he was a lecturer in urban planning which ties in with the architecture .
Where did you find that out. The net is very bad on details.
For instance on the declaration of interests of Dail members
http://www.oireachtas.ie/viewdoc.asp?DocID=3831&CatID=20
Eamon ryan declared no interests. Did he quit?
Well on the PD’s
Noel Grealish is Company Director: G.G.C. Galway Glass Centre Ltd., Briarhill Business Park, Galway
Tim O’Malley used to runs his own pharmacy which is a business in a way.
Liz O’Donnoll is also a director on some company but I would say that is only so consultancy thingy.
But again with the PD’s there is little info on what they did. If this was America we would know everything.
Again wheather or not a party has business people in there ranks does not make them any better or any worse at policy. Do teachers make better education ministers, Do farmers make better argi ministers, do lawyers make better justice ministers, do accountants make better finance ministers
I wrote the above reply prior to Copernicus’s
I’ve had some involvement with Ciarán. Teh company stuff directorship stuff I got on CD rOM of registered companies but is probably to be found by searching cro.ie
I thought the interview on UI was a bit lightweight. I wonder would Cuffe do something a bit more meaty on here
I see that Angrypotato.net is having a little dig at Trevor Sargent and the Podge & Rodge affair this evening.
