Dodging the issue

Read more about: Democracy, Labour Party

What is it with Labour and doing good idea’s half arsed First it was their civil unions bill. Not going far enough. Now it is voting rights for 16 year olds. But only in local and European elections. Way to get young people into politics vote for the two most boring elections. If you want to give them vote. Give them the full vote where they can actually engage in policies that will effect them. Not just pot hole fixing and regulating turnips. Obviously they have no problem with them voting the reason they are not going to whole hog is because they are chicken for the debate. It would take I believe a referendum and Labour seem scared of one.

It would take a referendum, so it can’t be done quickly, so let’s do what can be done in a reasonable timeframe, and look at a referendum later (same as the Civil Unions Bill).

Well they say that people start off left leaning and move to thr right as they get older. I wonder if Fianna Fail/Fine Gael/PDs suggested limiting voting to those over 50 what would the reaction be. Well opening it up to 16 year olds is exactly the same attempt to hijack the democratic process.

Dodging the issue is damn right. Let’s wait to see if they have the nerve to accuse Bertie of cowardice after this gutless bit of non-action.

Non-participation by the electorate is good for politicians.

    Bloody Yawn.
