The alternative government composed of Fine Gael and Labour, and possibly the Greens, still doesn’t have a policy platform. It’s still in the sidings, you could say.
All credit to them though for timetabling. You couldn’t choose a better occasion to bury bad news than on a Tuesday in March when the Dáil is not sitting, the nation’s attention is fixed on our great annual horseracing showcase at Cheltenham in England, and voter’s thoughts are turning towards the fabulous St Patrick’s Festival later in the week.
In the event everyone involved, Enda Kenny, Pat Rabbitte, the RTE duty roster in Dublin 2, did a great job by keeping their faces straight, and the reporters dutifully reported.
I was stripping wallpaper when RTE Radio’s Five Seven Live covered the event, and listening to the reporting enhanced my enjoyment of my task. But I think the paint will be long dry before Fine Gael and Labour manage to find any policies on which they can agree.
I took a piss when the ad break came, an idea I think that must have occurred to me because I’d just been listening to Pat and Enda doing the same!
