Some interesting bits emanating from the PD conference today. Newstalk are reporting that the party has voted to reexamine the Cafe-Bar proposal with a view to reintroducing the policy and they have also voted against the forthcoming Privacy Bill being introduced by Michael McDowell. No shortage of soundbites distancing the PDs from Fianna Fail with reference to Galway races, the willingness of FF to support their own interests against public good and so forth.
Policywise so far the big announcement has been Mary Harney’s announcment of the Ombudsman for Older People. The office is to have a similar structure to the Ombudsman for Children and is hoped to be included in the Party’s election manifesto.
McDowell’s speech is later in the day at 8:30 (live on RTE).
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
Would it be asking too much to just go the whole hog and have separate Ombudsmen for all possible categories such as the middle aged, the young, the not so young, the “they’re only fooling themselves” the pre-born, the dead, for women, for men and finally for the final five.
