Dublin radio station, NewsTalk 106 FM, is reporting this afternoon that significant errors exist on Ireland’s electoral register. They quote Minister Dick Roche as saying that, given this state of affairs, electoral fraud is a possibility.
The station’s website carries the following brief:
21/02/2006 16:20
The Government has admitted that any upcoming election is open to massive fraud as the electoral register is still “off” by hundreds of thousand of people.
Minister with reponsibility for the register, Dick Roche, says he’s furious with some local authorities and in more than one case, it’s been found that people on the list have been dead for over a decade.
The Minister is also alleging there’s evidence that at least one political party is encouraging its members to register and vote more than once.
