All in the family

Bertie Ahern has so far avoided “pleading the 5th” at Mahon today.   But he hasn’t needed to, being able to draw on a host of undocumented intra-family transfers and yet more dead people in order to be vague about where the money was coming from.  Today’s it’s the £10,000 in the Irish Permanent, consisting of two £5,000 lodgments.   He says that the latter came from his brother, as a cheque, possibly related to an amount that came from his parents (deceased).  The former may also have come from within the family, although there is apparently a cheque from a company (person deceased) that might correspond to that amount.  But here’s one strange thing: why did Bertie only accept cash from strangers (the dig-outs) but cheques from family members?

His father passes away and then it is his brother and his mother that are passing on money to Bertie but he can’t be sure. All families can have messy finances but this

And the king of modest living who apparently has to put his hand in his pocket every time he so much as hankers for a cup of cha saves almost half his salary while giving the other half to his missus in maintenance and the other half or so to the taxman. 3 halves don’t make this right.

Having just read about the scandal of MEPs on the take, de Bert could do worse than resign (already long overdue); apply to become an MEP and collect half a million plus annually.

I always wondered why MaryLou - MEP for the IRA/Sinn Fein - pinned her colours to the mast of a party with whom she had little in common (apart from the Stalinist guff & the hot-air concern for the underclasses).

    Now it is obvious.

    It’s the money, stupid.

Sinn Fein/IRA has always been more interested in money (power) than the people for whom they pretend to care.

I don’t think de Bert will settle for MEP when (at least in his own mind) he’s in the running for the EU Council Presidency.

    God help the EU then.

A pickpocket; a serial adulterer; a pathological liar & a scrounger - who can barely articulate the English language without copius notes & prompts.

The idea of an Irishman as EU President is desirable and there are several able people, both in and out of politics.

But Bertie Ahern is NOT that person.

Think Peter Sutherland; Michael McDowell; Pat Cox; Charlie McCreevy; Michael O’Leary or Mary Harney and YES.

    Definite potential there, in spades.

But de Bert makes no sense.

He cannot speak any official European language (including Irish).
He can’t take difficult decisions; he is shackled by outmoded trade union philosophies. He is devious & indecisive.

    NO: NO : NO.
