What is it with ego?

Read more about: Fine Gael, Waterford

John Deasy says that if FG do not get into power, he will challenge Enda for the leadership. He said this in an interview with RTE in which he looked more plankish than Enda Kenny himself. Hard to imagine, I know; I could go on about internal party rifts, etc., etc., but I won’t. This is a stunt by a egotistical muppet who wouldn’t get elected in a leadership battle, so why waste my time? Maybe someone else will write something more on this issue.

I don’t see the point in writing anything more.

Fact is it would be more in Deasy’s line to working his rear off trying to get a 2nd FG seat in Waterford. Tell you want, if FG fail by one seat to get into government this year and if Deasy is the only FG candidate elected in Waterford, then I’ll make my way to Waterford on my bike and challenge him for his seat next time out.

Deasy is just a kite. Many members feel electing Kenny was a mistake and with 6 months to go he has no idea how to win the election. He just doesn’t seem capable of leading the party. The negative poster campaign was the last straw. Kenny cannot be left to fight & lose the election. Richard Bruton should be the leader and may well be before the election. The honeymoon effect could offset some of the damage Kenny has done

Out of curiousity, Moneill, who are those members? I honestly have not come across that sentiment from anyone in the party. There are some people who would have support Richard Bruton when he went for the leadership, but everyone is now 100% behind Enda as leader - and there is little doubt about that.

I think every party knows that this is not the time for a leadership battle; even if they all hated Enda, they know they’re better of with him than with a messy (and fractuous) public in-fight.

Even when Harney jumped from the PDs it was clearly in the minds of everyone involved that a leadership battle had to be avoided, and that was months ago. Had Harney left with 2 years or so to spare before another election you can bet that the current Deputy Leader and the current Party President wouldn’t have hushed up quite so quickly there.

Back to FG, I’m sure anyone who had doubts about Kenny has had them longer than the last few weeks and unless they are forced to the party will not want to air its dirty linen in public when they’re trying to get the public on-side.
For example, if there was a leadership challenge tomorrow and Deasy went for it, his demotion would be the first topic for debate - once the battle was over and he remained a backbencher his seat wouldn’t be nearly as safe as it is now.

All he’s done is guaranteed he won’t be getting any significant posts if FG are in Government after the election. No one’s going to forgive him quickly for a gaffe like this.

Well it looks like one of the members was another TD. So much for the 100% support for Kenny. More to come…….

Henry Mount Charles’s turn today. 0% of the party membership include some very high profile people doesn’t it. More to come…..

Moniel, it is clear that thet paragon of objective journalism Sam Smyth totally spun a PD o Damien English comments. And with regards to Mountcharles, i’m not sure if he is even a member and is hardly a high profile one.

He is bitter that FG ran McGuinness and Doyle instead of himself in the 2004 European Elections, when Kenny’s leadership saw FG do the impossible and win two out of three in Leinster and beat FF in a national election for the first time in 80 years.

    I’m sure you’re right. What would I know……

    “I’m sure you’re right. What would I know……”

That is what I am trying to find out - Is Mountcharles a member of the party, and since when did he become a high profile one?
