What Are the Indo At?

Read more about: Coalition, Fianna Fail, Labour Party, Media

The Indo must think they’re very smart.  However, it’s clear from what Rabbitte has shown on his own website (the text of the interview they conducted with him) that they’re misleading people.  They even claimed Brendan Howlin was keeping a “studied silence”.  So studied, in fact, that he’d gone to South Africa on holidays the previous week just to avoid saying anything.
So what are they playing at?  Are they trying to get Labour to stand firm with FG, or are they trying to drive a wedge between the two?  It’s clear they have some sort of agenda, presumably coming from the top.

Gerry at ie-politics has a very good post on this, which is well worth reading.

It’s a pity if a group of journalists are letting their egos and/or a desire for a particular electoral outcome get in the way of their objectivity, but the Indo hasn’t been objective for a while.  Thank your-choice-of-deity for The Irish Times.  At least we can see some form of objectivity there.

Your right of course, this whole saga presents an easy opportunity to focus on people rather than perhaps taking a lull time to detail policy problems and get some discussion on that moving.

Equally Pat Rabbitte is within his rights to say he wants FG above all else but stop short of saying FG or opposition. It is after all about delivering policy as well as changing government. It stands to reason he keeps options open as a last resort. It is hardly ethically compromising.
