Sinn Fein Secularist?

Here is a question for Sinn Fein. Will they make part of their election manifesto that they will remove all reference to god in the Irish Constitution. Speaking about the European constitution Sinn Fein’s Daithí Doolan said
“if we are to truly achieve a Europe of Equals there must be no hierarchy of religions. I call on the Archbishop Martin and his colleagues in the Catholic Church to formally request that no mention of Christianity or God be included in any revisions to the EU Constitution or indeed the Berlin Declaration that is to be made in March of this year by the Parliament to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. We should choose instead to celebrate our religious diversity, rather than pit one against the other.”
Surely then if they want Christianity out of the EU constitution they would also want the same in the Irish Constitution. The preamble of the Irish Constitution is
- In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, from Whom is all authority and to Whom, as our final end, all actions both of men and States must be referred,
- We, the people of Éire,
- Humbly acknowledging all our obligations to our Divine Lord, Jesus Christ, Who sustained our fathers through centuries of trial,
- Will they want to remove this. I have emailed Cllr Doolan to ask this last week but as of yet I have no reply.
Irish Election are pleased to announce our collection of Irish
I don’t know whether there is any existing policy on the matter. If we did have a policy, though, I can’t imagine that we would support retaining those words.
“If we did have a policy….” (Post Jan 22nd 2007 at 6.44pm)
Who is “WE”?
Sinn Fein have but one religion -Power - bought by the continuing criminal activities of their partners - the IRA.
And if their model of a society of equals is based on that obtaining in Cuba, they should ask the people of Havana why they cannot eat the lobster that they catch, why they need a police permit to enter State run hotels; and why all the top state jobs are held by white people - friends & relatives of Fidel.
Then let Comrade Doolan come back & preach, but not before.
Thanks for reminding me why I don’t waste much time on this site, SOS.
The standard of what passes for “debate” here is pitiful.
The pity is your inability to face simple facts.
It would appear that unless one agrees with an extreme left-wing viewpoint, the post is unacceptable.
This is the stuff of totalitarianism, as exemplified in Fidel’s model state of Cuba - the blueprint for Adams 32-county communist State.
Ask FARC and the Colombian bomb-makers, they have lived there.
