Sinn Fein Goodwill Bonus for Policing Decision? [With Poll]

Read more about: Irish Election, Polls, Sinn Féin

I dont quite have facts and figures to go with this but yesterdays RedC/Sunday Business Post poll suggested that there may be increased numbers of voters who would vote Sinn Fein if they decided to recognise the police. In the sidebar we are putting in a poll asking whether yesterdays decision will affect whether you would be willing to vote for Sinn Fein.

I know quite well how many of our commenters will respond but feel free to leave reasons/thrash out the issues in the comments because, while it was not their primary (or even secondary) interest, the Special Ard Fheis could throw Sinn Fein back into the position of possible holding the balance of power. Personally I think moves such as the motion yesterday have the possibility to break down that wall which stops transfers going to Sinn Fein, if only for a small portion of the electorate. That small number may be sufficient to get them an extra couple of seats come May/June.

Some readers might be interested in reading Wednesday’s response to the Ard Fheis (if you haven’t already).

If I remember correctly there was a large majority (70-80%) who said they’d support the move, and a majority (something like 53%) who said support for the police would make them more likely to vote SF.
