Labour play hard ball

Read more about: Tribunals

This might well go down as the political move of 2008. For weeks Fianna Fail have giving out about the tribunal so what do Labour do. Bring in a motion of confidence in the tribunal making Fianna Fail have to actually go ya or na over what they themselves set up. This is the txt of the motion.

That Dail Eireann reaffirms its confidence in the Tribunal of Inquiry Into Certain Planning Matters and Payments appointed by Instrument of the Minister for the Environment and Local Government dated the 4th day of November 1997 (following the passing of appropriate motions by Dail Eireann and Seanad Eireann) and as amended by Instruments dated the 15th day of July 1998, 24th day of October 2002, 7th day of July 2003 and 3rd day of December 2004.

Thing is Fianna Fail might take this as an operation to actually vote no confidence in the tribunal and close it down. This would be a pretty interesting move. There is no doubt that a large if not majority of the people in this country are sick and tired of the tribunal, but it certainly would majorly piss off the other half of the country.

As Dempsey said on QandA last night, the Government will, as always, table its own motion on the matter.

That motion will probably reaffirm support for the Tribunal and also make it quite clear that they expect it to wrap up sooner rather than later.

What would be in the public interest would be to extend the remit of the ribunal to the rest of the country. I cannot believe that the distribution of brown envelopes was a purely Dublin phenomenum.

all planning decsions that contravene or modify development plans and other (albeit almowt wothless) documents should be investigated as a matter of course.

Well the Tribunal doesn’t have any real terms of reference limiting it’s investigations and certainly no time limit so Gordon you will probably get your wish. The blood sucking bastards in Dublin Castle have their teeth into the vein of the tax payer and have gotten used to the new mercs and expensive holidays so there is no way they are going back to private practice. Any politician who suggests disbanding them will suddenly find himself being investigated for membership of the communis….. sorry corrupt payments. In 10 years time the tribunal, now costing 1 billion euro a day will be rolling into a town near your. Get the bonfires ready. Theres a burnin to be done. “I saw Cllr Ryan SUPPING with the Devil”……
