Jim Higgins is at it again. A few months ago he came out with the stopping legal aid to criminals idea i.e if you have been guilty a few times if you can not afford it the state will not provide you with legal counsel any more in other words if you have been guilty before you will be guilty again.
Well he is back with a new Idea now. If Children mis-behave they lose child benefit. Speaking on the News at one he said that it was terrible how kids were “making life a misery for the settled community” (I guess disturbing travellers is grand). The reason for anti-social behaviour is bad parenting and poverty. So Jim’s idea is to make them poorer. Ya that will work. Also he then says that the day child benefit comes out is “karaoke week” where all the parents go to “enjoy karaoke” instead of using child benefit for children. So basically he is saying that child benefit is really state sponsored Karaoke bars. Seriously what is this guy smoking.
I think that creating some link between parents and what their children do is necessary if we’re ever doing to get anti-social behaviour in hand. It is much too easy for too many parents to throw their hands in the air and claim there is nothing they can do. My own suggest would be that we require Id cards for accessing and drinking alcohol and if your kids misbehave then you can’t go to your local boozer or directly to your offy.
